London Fields – Kitchen

A contemporary Swedish-style kitchen was required in a Victorian terraced house in North East London, close to a park going back to Tudor times. The kitchen was designed by Sola Kitchens taking into account two large windows overlooking the park. Though the kitchen was quite small the planning and preparation had to be precise and took 4 days.

The design called for a ceramic floor pattern to continue up the wall between the two windows and an over-size chevron patterned floor laid each side of the ceramic floor with the pattern leading the eye from the hall to the view through the windows.  The wooden floor had to go down first but, being of a different thickness to the ceramic tiles, a sub-floor had to be laid to compensate between the two. The wood, being expensive (£150 per square metre!) demanded precise ordering to minimise wastage.

As a finishing touch, five coats of Danish Oil were applied to waterproof and maintain the beauty of the floor and to protect it from the hard wear kitchen floors are prone to. HS Wood Flooring brought a bold design vividly to life without fuss or bother. It was never easy but they knew exactly what they were doing. The result was flawless!
